Ever thought about a donation to a charity as a Christmas gift? Me neither, but it’s brilliant. For my parents and grandmother, I made a contribution in their names to the Central Asia Institute, a non-profit organization that specializes in building schools in remote areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan. (You can read about CAI cofounder Greg Mortenson’s inspiring efforts in his phenomenal book “Three Cups of Tea” and his latest, “Stones into Schools”, FYI).
Mom, Dad and Grandma T. will be thrilled, I’m sure. Oh, and don’t think this is an opportunity to show the family what a wonderfully thoughtful son they have. Rather, it’s a chance for my family to invest in a worthwhile cause.
Maybe there’s an organization you believe in that could use a few dollars this year.
Just putting that out there.
