reconciler

Reconciler was the first real Louiston record, and it took me forever to complete. Yet I still can throw it on and not be totally mortified by what I created back in 2015. It’s pretty good bedroom-, indie-pop, and represents a graduation from the bootleg ways I used to record songs. I had committed to using Pro Tools for this despite feeling gun shy about my abilities navigating such a powerful and intimidating software. But I survived. More than that, actually: I got better at writing, recording, and producing.

In fact, Reconciler was an education in many ways. Burned out, I had quit my reporter/editor job at the start of 2015 and spent the next six months banging away at Reconciler. Looking back, I’m thankful to have sunk my jobless time into these songs (grateful for my wife, too, for keeping us financially afloat). No one was calling for a Louiston record. No one cared, but it felt important and nourishing to be focusing my creative energies into something that was mine and to be relieved, albeit temporarily, from the hassles and stresses of day jobs.
